The Atkins Diet is a pile of dangerous pseudo-science. Not that this comes as a surprise, but here's the word from Dr Susan Jebb of the Medical Research Council's Human Nutrition Research Centre.

Update: Post made friends-only. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] babysimon for pointing out that [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow had invited people in [livejournal.com profile] atkins_uk to join the thread, resulting in some incredibly lunatic contributions. Update: Public again.

*confused* Simon posting this was the first I heard of it - where did you apologise? Anyway, I accept your apology. I'm sure it's now clear that those like yourself who normally read my journal are welcome to share their views but calling in a rent-a-mob from anothe community was bound to be trouble.

my mistake re rent-a-mob as I forget that just because it says 'uk' in a community does not prevent non-uk'ers reading it and throwing in pointless and stoopid remarks. apology was in response to your posting on that community which you then removed, at link (if I copied the link correctly).

Frankly, I quite accept that Atkins / lo-carb sounds very stupid and in some ways idiotic. It is not how I was brought up to select and eat my food. But it works, and I've always been someone who follows empirical evidence. I miss bread and indian & thai food so much I really wish it didn't!
