The Atkins Diet is a pile of dangerous pseudo-science. Not that this comes as a surprise, but here's the word from Dr Susan Jebb of the Medical Research Council's Human Nutrition Research Centre.

Update: Post made friends-only. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] babysimon for pointing out that [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow had invited people in [livejournal.com profile] atkins_uk to join the thread, resulting in some incredibly lunatic contributions. Update: Public again.

I guess fat people will do anything to prevent other people loosing weight.

That's a pretty vile thing to say. And unfunny. And stupid. As people have pointed out, Paul is thin. I can also testify to the help he gave me while I lost a great deal of weight, which was invaluable.

Some fat people (and some thin people and some average sized people) are against (some kinds of) dieting. They're not against people losing weight, but they may be against the diet industry or a particular diet or the diet/weight gain cycle that's seems so prevalent in our society. They may think exercise is healthier than restricting food intake. They may think a whole lot of things, some scientifically supported, some less so. People are like that.

Why would fat people want to stop folk losing weight? And who are they trying to stop - other fat people? (In which case it's not 'fat people' who are doing this), or thin people? (in which case they may have a point...)

Maybe it was meant to be a joke. If not, I agree with everything you say.

geez. I was like, kidding.
(I made the joke because I know Paul is deathly skinny.)

=O.o=

I recommend a diet of amphetamine sulfate, corsets and tuna on ceiling-insulation crackers, but oh, remember to drink plenty of water, yo!

OK, I guess I'm feeling humour impaired atm. And some people do actually accuse fat people of this and worse...

Actually I really like those ceiling insulation crackers, especially the marmite flavoured ones.

I don't know. It's a rotten life being some fat, restricted to sitting on someone's hips for years on end.

Free the fat now! Equal rights for fat! Set the fat loose!
