I'll be getting up at 5am, rather than staying up all night, because I just can't do staying up all night after a day at work.

Having just got back from Whitby there is no way I have the energy to stay up tonight! I do tend to wake up quite a bit during the night though so I will have a mooch at the results then. I've checked "UK TV coverage" as I don't have cable TV any more (otherwise would watch US coverage) and can't stream TV thru the internet until I buy a less antiquated computer. BBC News website it is, then.

I lived on the West coast, given that polling for them doesn't even close till about 4 or 5 am here, and they need another couple hours (at least) to count the votes it seems a bit pointless to stay up, surely it'd make more sense to just wake up early...

I don't think so. When there were huge question marks in 2000 they all refused to give the speeches and Gore didn't do it till the very end at which point it was all over.

Legally a concession speech has no status and would not bar a court challenge, but in terms of politics going back after a concession speech would play pretty badly with voters.
