Was great to see lots of lovely people at BU last night, and to get trounced at that dice game. It would be interesting to play a variant in which each mistake gains you a die and you're out when you get a sixth. Very good to see [livejournal.com profile] ajva, of whom I don't see nearly enough.

Don't really have time for a full roll call, sorry!

I thought when I got a camera phone that it would be useful for taking covert photos on the street and the Tube, but all my experimentation so far has failed to produce a decent photo. To get even acceptable quality you have to get close up, aim carefully, and hold the camera steady, all of which makes it very obvious you're taking a photo...

Update: While the pack says "perudo", the game seems to be more commonly known online as Dudo.

A PowerShot S400 is pretty good for street photography. You can sit or stand and look at it as if examining the photos, and point it in the right direction and get off a shot when the moment is right. The zoom lens helps, and you can turn off the shutter noise and the flash. It's small enough and rectangular enough that it doesn't seem to trigger the "camera" reflex in passers by.
