On anonymous comments

Anonymous comments are enabled for the benefit of people who for one reason or another do not yet have an LJ. They are screened by default. Except where I've explicitly invited them, I do not want and will delete entirely unsigned comments.

I mention this because I just decided to delete rather than unscreen a perfectly harmless (if somewhat pointless) anonymous comment on the SATA thread because it was unsigned...

...you could spend the time reading up on whether your prospective PC purchases will work with your current hardware, instead of sitting there, handbag by your side, cleaning up your lj comments.

I imagine you sitting by your computer with a riding crop on one side and Unix in a Nutshell on the other, but to each his own. You can't even know someone through reading their blog - you only know about them what they wish to present to the world, or what they feel like is interesting enough to bother writing about. I at least understand that I'm reading a filtered version of reality and then adding to it my own interpretations. Your closest Unix reference book is likely far larger than the one I guessed ... or maybe you only use online reference sources.

I wish I actually got enough traffic on my blog to even have anonymous comments to delete, but I'm afraid my life is far too boring. "I gardened today, then I had dinner." Woo boy.

Hey you!

Thanks for rescuing me from the horrors, on the wee last night of Whitby, and for a good chat. You surprised me with an unexpected response to something which has remained unchallenged for some time:

"You cannot change someone unless they want to change themselves."

.. to which your response was, "but you can". No one has ever really challenged that, so it was refreshing to find someone who has such an optimistic view on things, and at the same time got me thinking to the original roots. I no longer believe fully in the original, but now see that there is perhaps some possibility for such a thing to be overcome.

Also, interesting chat on the BDSM stuff. I'll have to pay you a visit sometime.

1. Childeric will be at BMovie and can take the coat from you - he's tall and blonde and lookse like an 80's glam rocker. I understand that both of you know jhaelan - so hopefully he can supervise!
2. If you can give me a description of your coat I can fetch it from Laughtons...
