In less than a week, BiCon 2003 starts.

Now, I love BiCon: I've been going every year since 1991. I've helped run three BiCons including the one last year, so I have a fairly good idea what makes a BiCon. I've been to some wonderful ones, some OK ones, and some which were somewhat chaotic but which went well simply because the right people were brought together.

But from every sign I see about this year's BiCon, it stands every chance of being absolutely the best BiCon ever. It is simply the largest and most competent team, with the best leadership, in the best city, for a very long time. And not just the best so far, either - it may stand as a high point in BiCon history for a long time to come. Maybe forever - there won't be a BiCon forever, you know.

Don't miss out. Don't say "oh, maybe I'll go next year". Don't wonder if you can get the time off work. Go talk to your boss now and book the time off. Come to BiCon. It is the most fantastic time it is possible to have, and it is about to be more fantastic than ever before.

Friday 22nd to Monday 25th August 2003, University of East London, Docklands, London. Book now.

God, don't *do* this to me. I'm *dying* to be there but a close childhood friend of my boyfriend is getting married in Scotland that same weekend and we just can't do both. I simply can't go. I had been looking forward to it since last time (last year was my first ever) but, well, it'll have to be next year in Manchester after all. This girl's only getting married once (we hope) and that's the way it is. :(

Friday 22nd is likely to be a very very high stress day.... :(

That was 1992, wasn't it? My understanding of what happened when is here:

Let me know if it's wrong - thanks!

Our 'BiCon tour t-shirts' have it right. But, you see, I asked Marcus, and he is The Man Who Knows What's Going On.

Erk, just noticed that that page gets it wrong - one year has two BiCons! Fixed now - and I'll fix the above. 1991, phew!

Apparently one year *did* have two BiCons, so that's correct.

Yes, but that was way off in the distant past, when BiCon was a completely different event. I've listed BiCons since BiCon 7 since that's what I know for sure from memory - if anyone (ie [livejournal.com profile] lovingboth, [livejournal.com profile] mhw) wants to fill in details for BiCons still earlier I'd be delighted.

Maybe I should put a page on the Wiki...

I think I gave you pizza, though I have no idea - most of that BiCon was/is a blur.

On the other hand, if I don't turn up to 2004, we'll have a bisexual conference with no one in charge and no one knowing what the hell is supposed to be going on, which might make it the definitive bisexual gathering.

Well, you and [livejournal.com profile] purplerabbits are the other two great BiCon organisers, but I can talk up other BiCons another time - today seems like a good day for talking up 2003 :-)

fx:curtsies for two... quite concur on the talking up 2003 now theme. One of my local media contacts seemed quite nonplussed when I said I didn't want them running BiCon 2004 as a story until after BiCon 2003!
