• I now understand Rabin-Williams. Briefly, if p = 3 mod 8 and q = 7 mod 8, then the Legendre symbol (2/p) = -1 but (2/q) = 1, so if x is a quadratic residue mod q but not p, then 2p will be a quadratic residue modulo both. Of course if x isn't a QR mod q then -x will be. Simple, eh? Thanks for the many helpful suggestions.

I knew that decision to remain living was a mistake!

Then again, I can't think of NIN these days without thinking of that hilarious lounge band who cover them. God knows who they are but they caused me more amusement than Trent Reznor locked in a small cupboard with several rather viscious ferrets. With sharp teeth.
