Schedule:
  • Tonight: Finsternis!
  • Tomorrow - Conception is not happening tomorrow. There's a Violate in Glasgow, I'm sort of tempted...
  • 2002-12-09 Mon: Dental appointment
  • 2002-12-12 Thu: [livejournal.com profile] jinxremoving maybe
  • 2002-12-14 Sat: Nightmare Afore Xmas
  • 2002-12-18 Wed: Flat meeting
  • 2002-12-19 Thu: Fly to London
  • 2002-12-21 Sat: Club L'Amour
  • 2002-12-23 Mon: [livejournal.com profile] lizw
  • 2002-12-25 Wed: Family
  • 2002-12-27 Fri: Fly back
  • 2002-12-31 Tue: Hogmanay
  • 2002-01-01 Wed: recover
  • 2002-01-02 Thu: maybe flat meeting

  • I have cleaned the grill pan! Virtue is me.
  • Apparently I'm going to be in London at exactly the times [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady isn't there. Arse!
  • I received text messages independently from both [livejournal.com profile] ergotia and [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna informing me that Johnny Cash has done a cover of the NIN song "Hurt".
  • I now understand Rabin-Williams. Briefly, if p = 3 mod 8 and q = 7 mod 8, then the Legendre symbol (2/p) = -1 but (2/q) = 1, so if x is a quadratic residue mod q but not p, then 2p will be a quadratic residue modulo both. Of course if x isn't a QR mod q then -x will be. Simple, eh? Thanks for the many helpful suggestions.

Fancy a drink over the Xmas period? I won't be at Club L'Amour.

Or you could come over and meet my six-foot-tall cardboard cut-out Santa Claus...

Johnny Cash has done a cover of the NIN song "Hurt".

I think I've already mentioned this . . . twice. He also duets with Nick Cave on a version of the old Hank Williams song "I'm so lonesome I could cry" and does "Personal Jesus". I've got American IV on order, and American III at home ("The Mercy Seat", Bonne Prince Billy's "I see a darkness", U2's "One"). Recommended.

I seem to remember that ergotia and lilithmagna telling me at Bicon that Johnny Cash was Goth. I apologise for my former scepticism - they appear to be correct.

Yes, I thought of you when I heard the "Personal Jesus" cover and when I heard about the "Hurt" cover. Mind you, Lili and I have known Johnny was Goth As Fuck since we heard his "Man in Black" number:)

Oops! Actually I have not heard the "Personal Jesus" cover, but I have a dim memory of Paul telling me that Nick Cave, or maybe even Trent himself, did a cover of "Wanted Man", one of Johnny's bouncier numbers - anyway, I thought at the time must stick my tongue out and go "Nyaahh" at Katy :)

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds definitely covered "Wanted Man".
I have it, but can't remember which album it was on. I'd look it out but I need to run for a bus to Edinburgh now. See you at Finsternis tonight Paul.

Incidentally, "Wanted Man" was written by Bob Dylan, and first performed by Johnny Cash.

Dear me.

I knew that decision to remain living was a mistake!

Then again, I can't think of NIN these days without thinking of that hilarious lounge band who cover them. God knows who they are but they caused me more amusement than Trent Reznor locked in a small cupboard with several rather viscious ferrets. With sharp teeth. I imagine them to be somewhat lie the Host from Buffy singing "I wanna fuck you like an aniiimall...". Ah. What a vision.

Yes.

Glasgow tomorrow?

Ooooh you're coming to Glasgow!!! As it happens, there is *loads* of stuff going on in Glasgow tomorrow evening, not only Violate... be decadent and extravagant and come to more than one of them!! (Violate's a pretty early close, yes?)

The Solid Rock West on Dumbarton Road is having CRYOTEC Industrial Night - runs till midnight, free entry, its a fun wee night.

On the other side of town DJ Lucyfur (a.k.a Mel from Vain) is running Amatis, a nice wee new-ish Goth night in Sloane's Bar, just off Argyll Street (near the Argyll Arcade). Amatis is v. good fun, and is pretty similar in atmosphere to Finsternis (though the music is obviously different). I think it will probably be on till at least 1am, probably 2am? I'd highly recommend this.

Then if you must boogie for that extra hour till three there's always the Cathouse.... laugh at the nu-Metal children and feel superior.....

If you've not got anything on for Friday 13th, there's another Goth Night in Glasgow - Delerium 7 at the 13th note. I won't be able to make it, and I've never been to one, but I've heard its a good night.

Anyway hope to see you soon,

E. x x x

Only the candle light etc. is similar to Finsternis at Amatis. I know this because I have to swap all my bloody CDs over and it takes ages. Have to do it again tomorrow before Amatis. :)

i somehow found my way to your livejournal. *shrug*. i just had to comment on johnny cash's version of "hurt". first off, he's a big fan of trents.... as well he should be. have you heard his version of hurt? it amuses me to hear the little changes... tone inflections as well as changing "i wear this crown of shit" to "i wear this crown of thorns". classic.
