Update: I bought a Kodak DX3900, 3.1 megapixel camera. It's half the weight of my old one.
I promise I bought a copy of "What Digital Camera" a couple of days *before* Alison got given one that's better than mine. But anyway, it's certainly the final push I needed to go and buy one. I can get one that's higher resolution and half the weight of my existing one for about £200.
It has to be CF, zoom lens, at least two megapixels. Weight is very important - it's the size and weight of my existing camera that's finally driving me mad. But it doesn't have to be better than Alison's :-)
I'm currently looking at the Nikon Coolpix 2000 and the Samsung Digimax 230.
Tips?

Date: 2002-08-13 02:02 am (UTC)Take a look at Canon
Date: 2002-08-13 02:40 am (UTC)May I suggest a website?
Date: 2002-08-13 03:49 am (UTC)Its quite useful for digicam look ups and reviews.
There is also www.megapixel.net
Two sites I always keep in contact with when it comes to digicams...
I've not found any reviews of the Samsung... and as you want CF a Olympus cam is out of the question :-)
But Steve seems to think the Coolpix 2000 is definatly worth a look at :-)

Date: 2002-08-13 08:56 am (UTC)I'd look at Canon. They have some tiny cameras, with metal bodies. You can probably pick up a recently discontinued model at a sizeable discount; or an A20, A40 or S200 should be about the right price range...

Date: 2002-08-13 09:02 am (UTC)It's my first camera, but it's a lovely little thing. It's the Finepix a201, and I got an excellent deal on a bundle with extra memory and rechargeable batteries.
Also, in I'm reliably informed that camera electronics are more advanced than the optics (in general), so you should preferably buy from a camera manufacturer, as they'll have better optics.
