The aerobics class I haven't been to for the last few months provides alternatives for people with bad knees/backs or just worn out.
For running on the spot, substitute marching, lifting your knees as high as possible and pumping your arms. For jumping jacks, substitute stepping out from one leg to the other with your legs wide apart, stretching up and over to the other side with your arms, if that makes any sense. These are supposed to have the same end result but will take a bit longer.
