Just had the official word - convergence has indeed gone tits-up.

Anybody got a job?

Coming to London this weekend, so maybe see some of you then. Unless Lisa's not well in which case we'll probably just stay in the house and fuck all weekend.

Aaaaawwwww babe, I am so sorry! Well, you are beautiful and brilliant and extremely special, so it is only a matter of time till you get something better - and yes I know your industry is in a bad way which is why I say a matter of time...

Oh, and stay in or go out you are gonna get your brains fucked out....

It's scary. I'm starting to lose track of the number of people I know who are looking for a job.

Lets run away and start an Internet Start-up together. We can pull in Kits, Welsh and a few other bods. Funding should be no problem - just need a bare-bones biz plan, the suck^H^H^H^Hinvestors will lap it up.

Oops, 2 years too late. Dammit, I always seem to miss the boat.

[wishing the above was funny]

Hope you find something that fits well soon. I get the distinct feeling I'll be joining you in the job-hunt queue before too long.

Given the number of extremely clever people in and around the bi community who are jobless, it shouldn't be impossible to think of something we could make money doing.

Where did I put that list of dodgy scams thought up by Giles and Liz? :)

More seriously, there's conference organising, escort business :), web consultancy, writing, radio/tv production...

How awful honey, I'm really sorry to hear it. Still, you're incredibly talented in a number of ways and you'll be sorted again soon I'm sure. In the mean time, I'm sure we'll find ways to cheer you up.

Sadly, the only jobs I can give out at the moment are for for freelance subs.

Lots of love,

So what does a freelance sub actually do, then? I suppose I've always kind of assumed that any sort of editorial work would be entirely in-house.

??

They sub for money...

Really a freelancer might do almost anything that a staff production person might: edit, rewrite, do headlines and sells, design and lay out pages, proof pages, sort out images and photos. The only real excepton is that they don?t tend to commission.

On many mags lots of the editorial and writing work is done by freelancers, with the title having a very small number of permanent staff and a large family of freelances who they call on as needed. Sometimes sections of a mag or supplements will be farmed out entirely to freelances who may work from home.

Love,

Soph (chief sub) xxx

Yes, we were going to talk about this weren't we? Would you be able to give me an email about it?

Sorry to hear it. I have a list of techy job agencies in Edinburgh
with contact details accurate as of two months ago. Let me know if
you want a copy. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of it about.

Eeek, not good. I'll keep my eye out for anything that looks interesting, but I'm sure you'll find something great soon.
Was hoping to see you this weekend while I'm in Edders, but it seems you're going to be in London of all places... doh! Oh well. Some other time...
