If I had a filter to talk about the various bits of hard maths I'm trying to study, would anyone want to be on it? I'm currently reading this textbook on category theory.

Lovely day btw!

Update: First post here; it's now public.

Yes. Can't promise I'll understand enough to say anything useful though.

Maybe. My maths is rusty and I'd like to exercise it more...but I've got this dissertation to write in my immediate future so I might not pay much attention for the next few months!

Sure. I probably won't have much (if anything) to contribute, but it might remind me of some of the things I've forgotten, and if not, well, I like listening to people geeking about stuff they know and are passionate about, even when it's not my field :-)

I'd be interested for research purposes, but I'm 100% sure I wouldn't understand enough to make intelligent comments. Would be interested to read, though.

Also interested but not sure how much I'll understand :-)

Some I'll understand; and some of it, I won't.

I'm not reading much in the way of blogs at the moment while finishing my decidedly non-mathematical masters but would happily be on the filter to dip in to.
Vaguely related, I read Mark Buchanan's article on random matrix theory in this week's New Scientist and wondered if there has been much input from cryptologists to that theory since significance and randomness seem rather important in crypto work.

And thanks for the link to the category theory book. I've been vaguely meaning to look into category theory since I started learning Haskell.

Stick me on the filter. I'll probably gibber and scroll past though. Much as I'd like to do those A-level-like OU maths courses, this is not the year!

No thanks on the filter (my brain is already full of stuff I deal with on a daily basis) but it was a lovely day here too and I thought of people flying kites on the Common and was there in Spirit (which, in some languages, is the same word as 'wind'. So I was there on the wind.)

Somehow, it's really nice to feel connected by weather. ;-)

I'd be interested, although my ability to follow hard maths has sadly deteriorated over the last decade or so. (Happily I get on better with it on paper/screen than being talked to about it, though.)

I'd love to but I won't understand any.
