I'm considering signing up with the Cryonics Institute. Are you signed up? I'd be interested to hear your reasons why or why not. It does of course sound crazy, but when you press past that initial reaction to find out why it's crazy, I haven't heard a really satisfactory argument yet, and I'm interested to hear what people think. There are many reasons it might not work, but are there reasons to think it's really unlikely to work? How likely does recovery need to be for it to be worth it?

We're talking about the same people who banned research using already aborted foetuses for trials that could have massive beneficial results to the sick and dying. A ban on cryogenics really isn't that far fetched, especially if something goes wrong the first few times. The religious right is still Very powerful in American politics.
There's also the issue of this being more-or-less completely unproven. When they can freeze and restore a monkey, then you might have something worth sinking £14,000 into. For now, you might as well spend £14 grand on the lottery and enjoy any winnings you get.
