Back in 2008, the smart liberal spin on "post-partisanship" is that it was in part an effort to put a popular, centrist sheen on a relatively liberal agenda. Instead what Obama has wound up with is an unpopular, liberal sheen on a relatively centrist agenda.

There are some old racial wounds in this country that Obama's presidency has helped salve a little but he never possessed any workable fix for the political rift we've got.

The right is staffed by privileged politicians who pretend to be a lot more closed minded than they are in order to earn the support of their constituency. In office, they develop creative ways to help our hopelessly gamed economic system to suck the lifeblood from the country.

The left appear more honest about their public image but they seem incapable of making even the most simple policies work. I think they have no imagination when it comes to finding creative, workable solutions to the problems they talk so openly about.

I take solace in the measurable increase in political discourse we've got. That's after you strip away the massive misinformation being doled out by the various media machines.
