Biden - scrupulously refers to "Gov. Palin" throughout, even correcting himself when giving full names of both tickets. Attacks only the top of the ticket. Mostly ignores Palin.

Palin - does not explode, quickly forces every question into one of her pre-rehearsed talking points. Disconnect between what she's asked and what she says sometimes breathtaking, but of course many won't notice.

Right-wing pundits - make "ha ha" noises at her failure to actually explode

Undecided voters - those who express a preference break 2:1 for the Dems.

Glad I didn't actually watch it, really. Though I've watched snippets. Anyone got any snippets they recommend actually watching?

They should let John Humphrys at her. Or Paxman.

Oh, how joyous that would be!

Palin's expectations seem to have been set so absurdly low that a failure to actually collapse in a frothing heap is seen as a grand triumph for the Republicans. And the media are buying this!

I was pretty impressed that at least in the beginning the moderator would ask her after she spoke whether she would like to address [insert original question topic here]

there was the bit where biden referred to the bridge to nowhere\

then there was the bit where she tried to call having a timeline to leave iraq 'a white flag of surrender' which unfortunately he didn't call her on.

oh, and there was also the gay marriage question.

Her favourables with the CNN focus group dropped like a stone at the "white flag" line, so Biden probably made the right call just leaving it there...

I recommend an early section where they both state that while same sex couples should be allowed equal human rights ie allowed to visit the sick partner in hospital, they of course can't possibly be married etc. They actually nod in agreement with each other at the end!

It's interesting to note that Palin pronounces "nuclear" as "nucular".

Her answers to the:

1) Gay marriage question: "No I'm not flip flopping and yes I really believe this, really"

2) Biden slamming her on the Afghanistan bit, where she didn't know the surge didn't work.

She says "Darn right" almost as many times as she goes on about how much of a "Maverick" McCain is (which thankfully Biden picked up on at one point. The Maverick thing, not the "Darn right"s, that is).

I think this cartoon sums it up.
