Yes, on NPR today they had a little story about the lawyerly advice Bush received on the US not needing to adhere to the Geneva conventions if the president decided it was not in the national interest. I'm so ashamed. I can't believe there's people in this country that still think that Bush should be (re-)elected. On the other hand, I am still in awe of his administration's skill at media manipulation. Why didn't the Clintons ever learn control of spin? And Kerry is just not catching fire like he needs to. Gads. Where is John Hinkley when you need him?

It's not that the Republicans are better at controlling spin - it's that the big media are complicit in their spinning. Fox News being the most egregious example...

Most interesting - if depressing - reading. Thanks for digging this up.

Bloody hell. Every time I almost convince myself that what's happening here isn't quite as bad as what happened in Germany in the 1930s, something new comes up to make the parallel even stronger.

I think I'm going to be sick.

As far as I can work out, this is the "Kyoto" principal in action again. Also known as "I'm taking my ball and going home" or "do as I say, not as I do or I'll kick your ass you ungrateful little snot bag, now get me more beer from the fridge"
