I don't update here as often as I'd like, so my current plan is to try and do so using my 'phone on train journeys from time to time, as an alternative to endless games of Minesweeper. That means updates may be of unpredictable length and end abruptly, since if I don't send them on journey end I'll probably not get around to it.

I was very pleased to hear this morning that [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady liked the flat upstairs. These days I go home only to make use of my shower and washing machine, because I'd much rather be around my partners in Streatham than in my lonely flat in Tooting, but it leads to a feeling of uprootedness and makes worse my natural tendancy towards procrastination, since everything I need to get done is at home. It's a vicious circle in several ways: for example, I can't shop for food because it will go off before I get around to eating it and anyway I can't be bothered when I'm hardly ever home, so I don't go home to eat. Tidying, similarly, seems slightly futile.

Right now I'm on a train to Streatham because there's some stuff there that I need to take to Tooting, but even that is going to mean resisting a warm shared bed to get on a busride to my messy flat.

So my hope is that if I live in the flat just upstairs, I might go there from time to time. I've always said I would ideally live in the flat next door to Lisa and Lili, and I don't know why it's taken me so long to take that seriously as a possibility. I'm looking forward to it, and to sharing a flat with Jess, very much.

Oh, and it should result in some great parties :-)

In other news, I'm upset to realise that I have almost certainly permanently fried the hard drive of my MP3 player and lost my MP3 collection. I took the drive out so I could put it in a machine at work and fix some problems with it. Unfortunately laptop hard drives connectors are not as idiot proof as normal ones: I connected it one position along from where it should be, attaching the power rails direct to some data pins, and now it behaves like a brick as far as I can tell. If anyone knows of some magic to fix this that would be cool, but I'm not optimistic. I guess it means it's time to buy a new MP3 player...

Update: Something is screwy with Orange phone service in Streatham. I couldn't get any GPRS all night to get this out of my 'phone, so it ended up being emailed in the morning. From Streatham, because I didn't go home in the end. I'm going to take a rucksack to work this morning and home tonight...

This is great news. Again. (I'm going to keep repeating that until you actually move...)

If you want a replacement MP3 (well, ogg) collection you can have mine.

From Streatham, because I didn't go home in the end.

*grin* Moving there sounds like a really good idea.

It may be possible to rescue the mp3 collection if you have an identical hard drive and can swap the controller board. I've done this in the past with IDE and SCSI II drives but a small laptop drive may be totally sealed? In any case didn't you copy it all to spikeyladys' machine at some point?

The move to Streatham sounds like such a good plan. I'm *so* happy for you all. A house warming may be in order :-)

Ah, Streatham! Such sweet memories! A fine choice of domicile. Are there any decent pubs in Streatham now? In my day they were all rubbish - not that that stopped us of course. Mind you, in my day you could go out with five bob to the ABC and still have change for plaice and chips and the 109 bus fare. And of course it was all fields too.
