After careful negotiations with lots of people, an alternative BiCon flat thing emerges.

One flat: [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth (that's me!), [livejournal.com profile] ergotia, Lily, Jackie, [livejournal.com profile] countess_sophia, [livejournal.com profile] coracaskia

Another flat: [livejournal.com profile] purplerabbits, [livejournal.com profile] babysimon, [livejournal.com profile] ajva, [livejournal.com profile] jhg, 2 unknown others.

Spaces in this exciting and prestigious BiCon flat in a very des res will doubtless go soon, so book now and avoid the rush!

Update: I should of course mention the other cool flat that should be nearby, with [livejournal.com profile] dr_d, [livejournal.com profile] katyha, [livejournal.com profile] adjectivemarcus, Nick, Lizzy, [livejournal.com profile] lolliepopp...

OK, well I don't know what my MTAs problem was before but I've forced through all those mails now. I tend to think letting through ICMP ECHO requests is a good idea though.

ping-flooding DOS? Not that I'm hugely knowledgable, but maybe if you were paranoid...

Why would I want people to be able to map my network by pinging my entire address range? All people need to know is if the machine is currently offering the service the require. In the case of mail this can be readily established by telneting to port 25, as you can trace route to the edge of the network you can pretty much check connectivity, you can then check the service nothing more is needed.
