[livejournal.com profile] ergotia and [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna heroically joined me in my journey to Wimbledon to sort out my worries over my stuff; my Mum's partner Chris also crossed London to join us, but mobile phone problems meant he missed all the fun.

We got there about five minutes early, but the Men with Ven were already there! But the guy from the storage space hustled us all to our locker and said "OK, you can start unpacking now" so they did, no questions asked. After we'd found the correct locker (two false tries from the storage place) they unpacked everything into it, with my and [livejournal.com profile] lilthmagna's help, before mentioning money. They asked for an extra GBP 115 over the GBP 150 they'd originally asked for. I said very politely that I thought that it was unfair since it wasn't my fault they'd been late and we'd missed the storage. They looked uncomfortable and said it wasn't theirs either. Then [livejournal.com profile] lilthmagna said "Split the difference?", they looked very relieved, and they accepted GBP 200 for the whole thing. I'm pretty confident that all my stuff was there and I'm very glad to have it all sorted out. Thanks all for the advice!

Saw Big Issue journalist about poly today (with [livejournal.com profile] gemoon, [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady, [livejournal.com profile] babysimon, [livejournal.com profile] trishpiglet), seemed to go well but very rushed. No more lunchtime interviews I think.

You do know the article will just read "poly: a bunch of flipping goths", don't you? :)

(Perhaps there is a reason why I R not a hack, after all)

Hooray that you're happy... but who are they, so I can avoid using them?

When's the article coming out? I am really interested in reading it ... wanting to know how the poly scene differs in the UK from here. (For example, it's clear over here that the "lifestylers" - aka swingers - are more or less "poly" but they're very anti-gay men and pro-lesbian - well, pro-bisexual women. I don't actually consider them poly although strictly speaking I suppose they are, but the lifestylers are very different from the self-identified poly people I know in many ways - one of them being that they're much more in the closet.)

Apparently, Elle magazine (at least here in the states) has run a couple of articles by poly people -- or at least, "open marriage" people, which may or may not be quite the same thing depending on one's specific definitions. I haven't read these articles (yet), but my partner did and found them to be generally very positive. Of course, the letters they've received in response have mostly been of the "they're fooling themselves, they're really miserable" variety... M is seriously thinking of writing in to say that yes, this really can work, we've had a triad going for a year and a half now and all three of us are happier than we've ever been.

I don't expect polyamory to be seen as "normal" for quite some time, but it's always good to see some positive portrayal in the media.

Glad an amicable arrangement was arrived at. That was a pretty scary situation.
I alway move my stuff myself, if I ever used a company I would have be far too tempted to wind them up when they unloaded by saying "Be careful with this stuff, one of the boxes has my collection of antique hand grenades in" or something similar, as saying it's glassware or fragile is just asking for trouble.
