Friends list amnesty

I like this New Year meme.

Please feel free to take me off your friends list if I'm only there out of a sense of obligation. I won't think you don't like me - it could be that you like me in person but my journal is all geek stuff, or that your friends list is out of control, or that you're using LJ for something different, or any number of things. You're free to do that at any time, of course, but the idea of a meme saying "start your year with a manageable number of journals to read" is appealing...

I'm on few enough of your filters that you barely impact my "holy shit how am I ever going to slog through all this" friends list experience.

It's kinda weird. A lot of people on my list I ended up feeling closer to after starting to read them. Or I got to know them better. Or I feel somewhat less out of touch. There are a couple people, you included, where being on LJ with you makes me feel more remote, less in touch, and less like I know you. It's probably the difference between someone who's a light acquaintence but whose circle and experience overlaps mine, and someone with whom I've shared a lot but our current experiences are so totally separate.

It's weird, and I hope this isn't an overshare. In any case, I miss you, and unlike a lot of my friends being with LJ on you doesn't substitute for voice or in person contact.

It also means I should do fewer entries like this, and more that say something about my actual life.

I will try and do that this evening, since I have a night off. But I'm off to Oxford Circus to buy lights just now...
