I have implemented my new trust metric, and applied it (fairly crudely) to LiveJournal friends lists as an experiment. The result is a tool that tells you who is "closest" to your friends list who isn't actually on it, like "popwithfriends" but more sophisticated.

Who is closest to your friends list?

Let me know how plausible the results seem to you.

Update: Shit, I've broken the machine it was running on. Back later when I've made it check the load average before running the metric... Update: Back again now, with a rate limiter to keep the load average reasonable. Gosh, hadn't expected such popularity!

ps: how i found trust metric ...

I found your trust metric from [livejournal.com profile] noelql, although a few other people had it before her, only I always got to the site when it was too busy.

About the results: I know of maybe a quarter of the people listed. I'm going to have to go to the new-to-me LJs and the not-new ones and see. A couple of the people listed are definitely no one I'd trust to read my friends-locked posts, but there's no way your metric would know that. *g* It's going to be fun to read more LJs, and I hope to find some new people to add as friends.

Thank you for making this available.

i found this through [livejournal.com profile] greywolfe's journal. great job. this list tells me that my friends list should be about twice as big as it is now. :-) i know nearly all the people that came up personally, and the few remaining, i know by inference, or other people's journals. there were only a couple that i had no idea who they were, and when i find out, i'll probably kick myself.

thanks!

everytime i try, no matter what time of day it is.. i get this: Sorry! The load on this computer is too great to calculate the results for crimsonfleur. It's only a very little computer and many people are trying to use at the moment! Please try again later.

very interesting ... many of the people on the list were IRL friends or people who's journals I have read on occasion but don't feel I know well enough to add to my friends' list. A couple of anomolies though, there were a few people on there that I don't associate with because they are people that I can't stand and definitely know that I am unable to trust.

same results as Crimsonfleur

Also no matter how often or what time of day, but I can enter in a friends name and get results...It looks fascinating. I came to it from dargie's link I believe.

i couldn't get it to work for me, unfortunately. typing in the usernames of friends works fine, but using my own username always results in a notice telling me to load later.

Not sure what it is

I read about your tool in the journal of [livejournal.com profile] marketsquare.

I'm not sure what it does or how it works. I got this reply:

Sorry! The load on this computer is too great to calculate the results for methodius. It's only a very little computer and many people are trying to use at the moment! Please try again later.

Am I correct in guessing that it takes the people of the friends list of the people you list as a friend and ranks them in order of comminality?

It seems a bit too popular; I hope to get results tomorrow.

I knew about four people out of like 50. The rest were either groups that my friends had joined, or friends of an aquaintance that I don't know well enough to add *her* friends to my fl. Anyways, nice try though. :)

Somehow I doubt most of these people would want to be on my friends list... But then again I'm still not quite sure what this means. Does it mean they should be friends or not?

lame. it simply looks at the friend list of my friends and reports back those that arent tagged as my friends. it even reported communities as friends.

there are some people on my list (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dwizzy/11379.html#cutid1) that are actually friends of mine ([livejournal.com profile] nicothica & [livejournal.com profile] ukkepuk, both added the other night)
for the rest: fairly acurate! know many people on that list indeed :-)
