Gigantor, today, Teviot Park Room. I believe there are some Edgar-sponsored live bands first, but I can't find any information online anywhere. Update: I plan to show up around 11pm - [livejournal.com profile] nik_strychnine just told me that that's the kickoff time and the live band before hand is some best avoided rock act.

Sadly [livejournal.com profile] purplerabbits can't make it, she's away for a few days.

We have taken the dead washing machine to pieces. I bought a special socket and rachet for removing one of the huge concrete blocks bolted to the side of the drum. I used bondage shears (aka paramedic shears) to slice through bundles of cables. Now we have a big steel box with a drum in it. If we can get the drum out, we'll be laughing. To do that, we need to lever off the front of the thing, for which we definitely need a bigger implement of destruction than any we have. Does anybody have a crowbar or a wrecking bar? Update: cancel that, we just used a hacksaw and smashed the case open. We've got the drum out now. [livejournal.com profile] sibelian is drumming on it as I type. Yes, indeed, we h4XOred our washing machine!

I have backed up my PC onto 13 CD-ROMs. I am virtue! I'm even taking relative backups now. Maybe it's time I bought a DVD rewriter? The local cheapo computer bits shop does an NEC one for GBP 130. Does anyone know the difference between DVD+RW and DVD-RW? Are there other "gotcha"s I should watch out for?

Whitby tickets have arrived. Rar!

Off to buy boring clothes later today, to stock my two-city wardrobe.

I probably return to London on Wednesday.

I've got a three-foot crowbar. If you don't feel like dropping round to borrow it, you should be aware that they cost less than a tenner from just about any big DIY store.

I have a solid crowbar/jemmy .. ask for it - I now want to bring it to Gigantor ;)

Does the drum come out of the bottom of the machine, or the back (after you remove the access plate on the back?

Otherwise, as said, get thee to a local DIY store, where you will be able to purchase your very own NT configuration tool.

DVD-R vs DVD+R

From: [identity profile] cairmen.livejournal.com
There are a number of differences (google the DVD FAQ to find out more), but the big ones are

- DVD-R disks are noticably cheaper (http://www.blankdiskshop.co.uk)
- It looks like DVD-R is going to become the standard. IMO.

DVD-R is the standard. +RW and +R aren't actually DVD; you'll notice the products don't carry the DVD logo. They call them "DVD+RW" for marketing reasons, on the grounds that some DVD drives can read +RW discs, and +RW drives can read DVDs.

+RW is good for backing up data, and should be compared with DVD-RAM.

DVD-R is best for making movie discs and for data transfer, as it's readable by many more drives than +R or +RW.

DVD-RW isn't really useful for much. It's not compatible with enough DVD players to be an alternative to DVD-R, and it's not convenient enough to be an alternative to DVD-RAM.

While you can get drives that write both DVD and +RW formats, they're really expensive. If you only care about DVD, you can get a Panasonic combo drive (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=TC3S-1006) which writes DVD-RAM, DVD-R and CDs for $190; 22Mbps DVD-RAM write speed.

Nonoxynol condoms shouldn't really be used for anything. It's nasty stuff, bad for you.

There's links to WHO/CDC articles in this entry (http://www.livejournal.com/talkpost.bml?journal=kaet&itemid=109680), if anyone's interested in chapter and verse?

Why boring? Buy exciting, pretty, sparkly clothes - you have a decent excuse!
PS - one week! *bounce*

Hello gorgeous! I did think about putting "JR-176 hours" at the bottom but I thought people might throw virtual buckets of water at me...

I mean socks, knickers, daywear T-shirts and so forth. But we should definitely go sparkly clothes shopping together sometime when you're in London.

That reminds me, must text [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth...

Yes, what is going on with condoms for anal? I can only find extra safe, which refers of course to the dread nonoxynol 9, and have not been able to find extra strong anywhere for ages. I know there was some research recently that suggested extra strong are not significantly safer, but is that now taken as fact or what? I guess I should email Durex really :)

There are still some people arguing that people should only use 'extra-strong' condoms for anal sex, but they're wrong :)

Use whatever's most comfortable. The "extra-strong" stuff is pretty much BS. N9 is a detergent--seriously!--and should not be permitted anywhere near tender bits.

Cor! I never knew it was that complicated!

In that case, I suggest using a surplus carrier bag. Recycling AND safe bumsex. Top stuff! Fair enough I'm not sure how enjoyable the experience might be but doesn't that all add to the thrill of the experience?

(Eugh NB I am not suggesting you try this on me)

(that would be difficult in the first place seeing as you are a gurl)

Any decent (ie kitemarked or CE-marked) non-spermicidal condom is ok for anal sex. Lubricant use matters much more than 'strength'...

Where do you buy such shears/ I have many a use for them including cutting cables *grins*

Maplin. They were about three quid IIRC.
From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_nicolai_/
They might be called 'heavy duty tin snips' or 'aircraft snips' (cuts sheet aluminium well).

Of course, the real destructo-tool that we all don't need but want is:

The Hooligan Tool

It would have more specialised uses in bondage, though.
