I'm trying to decide whether to go to see Apop etc in Morecambe in late February, who else is thinking of going?

The web pages are so shit it's barely worth the bother of me putting a link here, but for what it's worth: http://www.thearcane.org/

Update for unrelated link propogation 1: (UULP! in future) digital copyright on fart recordings for a remote-control whoopee cushion. "Let's pause for a moment to meditate on the sublimity of a legal system that can treat fart noises as intellectual property. [...] Thanks for suggesting this item go to brilliant reader Philip Cuff, who says he now regrets having released all of his farts into the public domain. "

i was vaguely thinking about it, partly because i could stay at my mums house to save on accomodation costs... might end up there anyway, but i'm not explicitly planing it...

I am doing just that! Going up and staying at my mums house.. The plan is she stays at her boyfriends for the weekend whilst me and mates take over her place. She doesnt know what she's letting herself in for!

Yep, I'll be there.

The website (it is a bit mangled, isn't it?) doesn't make it entirely clear, but there are actually two parallel events on the Friday - the Vampire masked ball thing (with music from Two Witches and Star Industry) and the main goth fest (with music from Swarf, Pro Jekt, Manuskript). There were only a limited number of tickets for the ball, and they've all (afaik) sold out now.

Well that's OK, 'cos it doesn't sound like I'd have fancied the Ball anyway...

Never let it be said that goths don't feature in all the best locations!

Advice from one who knows: avoid like plague. If you do go, pop along the road to Southport and check out the HUMAN ROULETTE WHEEL! (NB this may or may not exist, my days of dodgy NW seaside towns is just restricted to me mam in Blackpool these days).

there used to be a place called "fun house" in morecambe, which did feature a human roulette wheel, along with vertical slides and all manner of safety-regulation flaunting devices. iirc it burnt down about ten years ago. shame.

really!

Ah, wasn't this in Blackpool? I would have been but a wee nipper at the time but I certainly remember that happening...

If there isn't a Human Roulette Wheel in Southport I think that one should be established somewhere in London - the sophisticates of the metropolis would love it!

(Ok I don't really count as a sophisticate...)

There was indeed a human roulette wheel in the Funhouse in Southport.
Absolutely no idea if it's still there.

I remember that.. Was great fun. The human wheel was frightening, got loads of burns from skidding off it. Also they claimed to have the steepest slide in the world IIRC. I'm amazed there were no deaths or major injuries.

Havent lived there since 1990 tho. It now seems even the pleasure park has closed and the big dipper has certainly gone :(

Steeper than a drop slide (an almost vertical drop which flattens out towards the bottom) ?

First time i saw one of those, I thought "that looks fun" then looked down and couldn't do it. Way too scary. Of course, having 5, 6 and 7 year olds push past me to go down it didn't help.

I managed it in the end...

Oh sheesh yes, I remember going on one of those slides and getting horrific burns as a nipper - most unpleasant, was scared of the Funhouse ever since. And they had that scary laughing face... argh! Ph33r.

i remember having nightmares about a sliding bridge contraption that they had - i always imagined that there was an infinite drop off the sides. scary stuff, when i was eight.

Woah woah - the Big Dipper has GONE?! Since when?!

I have so lost touch with my NW roots.

Me 'n Ems will probably be there. Though we haven't sorted it out yet, and are beginning to panic.

I'm looking forward to it, but then it is as near to on my doorstep as any goth event is likely to get ;)
