What's this a graph of?

The light blue line represents the years that copyright gives protection for.

The dark blue line is Mickey Mouse's age.

interestingly, Disney may end up shooting itself in the foot by bucking for longer copyright terms, as the Winnie The Pooh rights are still contested by A A Milne's heirs, and it falls within the new copyright terms.

(without reading the post-cut text)

It's a graph of the age of the oldest disney animation vs. extensions in the length of copyright laws.

*looks*
Close enough. :)
(mind you, the subject line did rather give it away)

On a side note, Disney have at least done us all the favour of buying the distribution rights to a bunch of Studio Ghibli films, allowing us poor westerners to buy Princess Mononoke et al. on DVD. It's a purely commercial venture on their part, of course, but if it means that I can get Miyazaki fims for a tenner (HMV sale!) then I'm happy. Let's just hope they actually get round to releasing the back catalogue...

US copyright laws? I'm guessing it's out of Euro copyright (70 years from creation, rather than Disney's death?)
