I've just come off the phone to [livejournal.com profile] ergotia, and she says that her office network is currently buggered, so she can't send or receive email or LJ just now. Her and [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna's mobiles are still lost, so the only way to reach her is currently her office phone number...

On an unrelated note, here is today's image featuring TV's Wil Wheaton ("Wesley Crusher").

There was that Eurythmics song about the "colour of your (left|right) hand", which I've never worked out whether was dodgy or weird or what. I can't remember the details, but it's used to rhyme with sand. Not bad, I suppose, I just thought people who read this might be able to solve one of life's little mysteries for me.

Maybe it's an allusion to when you're playing cards, and you're not meant to let anyone see which cards you're holding, because if someone does see, they'll have an advantage over you. So in song world, "seeing the colour of someone's hand" means finding out what they're planning to do. Um. Maybe.

Oh! Oh! Talk Like A Pirate Day is something we have to have to *have* to do...Whitby? Thursday? ~looks hopeful~ we could get everyone in the Elsinore to do it...~glint in [unpatched] eye~

"Show me the colour of your right hand..."

Yes, that's from "You Have Placed a Chill In My Heart". The video for the song features Annie Lennox in a drab coat and barely-there make-up wandering around an arid landscape. When it gets to that line, she shows you her palm and there are two neon lights there, one green, showing a dollar sign, and one red, showing a heart. So she's asking "are you money-minded or love-minded?".

But then the album it comes from (Savage) is a bit arty like that. She plays three characters - a bitter and prude housewife stereotype, a whorish drag queen stereotype, and the character with barely any make up in a dull coat (mentioned above), which seems to represent the "real" woman, once everything else is stripped away (and the landscape she's in being a reflection of this too). So presumably that's why you get this "money/love" challenge from that particular character.

love (and money),

someone who knows too much about the Eurythmics. xxx
