"Mabel Leyshon was stabbed to death at her home in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch on Anglesey, in November 2001."

Date: 2002-08-02 12:19 pm (UTC)Two friends on holiday in Anglesey proceed to have more and more argumentative discussions about how you actually pronounce the name "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" and eventually decide (after meeting nothing but tourists all day) that they'll go into a pub and ask the bar staff (what on earth made them think an Aussie would know...). However, this being a Sunday in Wales, the bar's shut so they go into a hamburger joint instead.
They walk up to the counter, and the girl asks them (in a beautifully modulated Welsh accent) what they'd like. One says "Two burgers and chips, please, and two cokes. And if you could say for us very slowly and clearly the name of this place so my friend can understand how to pronounce it...."
Looking at them as if they were stark staring mad, she carefully enunciates "Bur - ger King".
Okay, I never said it was any good....
