Public holidays in Edinburgh

The definitive word on when the bank holidays are. I had to find this for work so I thought I should share...

Not wanting to be a pedantic banker ... (But I will) This is a definitive list of Scottish local and public holidays - certainly not bank holidays. Looking at that list, the words "I wish" sprang to mind, as many of the dates listed as public holidays (ie 16 Sept) aren't actually bank holidays. Also, actual bank holidays such as Aug 26 aren't even included.

I can probably get you a definitive list of actual bank holidays if you want one - but i'm assuming you were actually looking for local public holidays in Edinburgh.

That's cause the Scottish banks now make their staff take English bank holidays. But, I believe, they used to be bank holidays up here and are still referred to as such by non-bankers.

The only time this has annoyed me was when I had to work on Jan 2nd and couldn't get to work my usual way cause Lothian Buses were working public holiday schedule. And the bloody branches were mostly closed but they still made head office staff come in. But I did no work that day, cause I'm such a rebel.

BTW, glancing at your diary, I suspect we work for the same place :)

Ah, that's an interesting question - officially I'm in the Regus building (which is one of those short term offices in Edinburgh Park, behind Drummond - we get to use your canteen), but cause I'm a techie for Data Networks most of my work is in Fettes (which looks like a set from Battlestar Galactica, I've always thought) so I camp out there. I hate the Gyle too - there's nothing there and it's a pin to get to.
