On 1 July, Nominet will publish the addresses associated with all domains under its control: *.org.uk and *.co.uk among others. One of the main reasons I went for cluefactory.org.uk was that it didn't have this requirement. I need to get my details changed fast!

Thanks for the heads-up, [livejournal.com profile] skx!

Clarification: I already have a BM address I use for domains like ciphergoth.org; I just need to get the details changed on my UK domains to point at this address.

Update: At the moment that domain is registered with a friend, and so I always feel guilty mailing him to ask for changes. If I wanted to transfer to a commercial registrar, who should I go to and how do I do it?

What revolting behaviour. Why are they doing this?

I would have thought the obvious solution would be choose a real but no longer extant address (but which will appear for example in the A-Z) and put that down. I can offer a couple of suitable ones if needed.

That would make receiving, and returning Domain certificates tricky as they're real paper things that get posted.

What use are the certificates, out of interest? I registered my domain, got the certificate, then moved house, and I never bothered to tell them I'd moved house. All correspondance has been done via email. Fair enough, if they wanted to find me, they could probably ask the landlord, if it's still the same guy, but just curious as to how useful the certificates are?

Mainly to prove you own it, if the ISP/Registrar you got it through goes tits up, or if someone tries to move it without your say so. The person with the most current certificate is deemed to be the real owner. AFAIR.
