As long as they're still both doing OK, there shoudn't be any need for intervention.

Don't think I agree with that. It's possible to be doing okay at 7 cm, but then be exhausted and unable to push by the time one gets to 10.

In fact, I think there's an argument that not progressing for several hours after 6 cm or so is "not okay" by definition.

Ah... I see I'm getting near rant territory. I shall stop, because I know where this rant goes and it's a bit gruesome ;-(
