Well, some phones can be USB hosts, with a little a lot of faff. But it's not exactly supported, and I note that page hasn't been updated from 2.2 to 2.3.7.

Now, if you can wait for the Galaxy Nexus... one of the Android developers at Google says it will support USB gamepads at least.

Could've sworn I'd seen some other weird Android phone where an OEM had added support for USB host for mass storage, but can't think where/who.
