I just released version 0.8 of a small bit of software I wrote for work, mercurial-server.

mercurial-server gives your developers remote read/write access to centralized Mercurial repositories using SSH public key authentication; it provides convenient and fine-grained key management and access control.

Now I'm looking for the help of a Debian developer to get the software into Debian, and later into Ubuntu. Any of the Debian developers reading this fancy giving me any advice or getting involved? Thanks!

I'm willing to sponsor you.

Stylistically I'd suggest the last changelog entry should have "Closes: #555750" and uses your email address - rather than @arizonabay.

But otherwise it looks good - only gripe is "/usr/share/mercurial-server/refresh-auth" vs /usr/local as documented on the homepage.

If you're happy with me to edit your changelog just ACK here, or I'll wait until you upload a new revision.

Can't help on Debian front, but you might ask [personal profile] marnanel about getting it into Ubuntu.

I think the plan is to get it into Ubuntu via the usual Debian sync. It's not very desktop-y.

Oh, you star - thank you so much.

Since uploading 0.8 I've found a few minor bugs including a FTBFS due to missing Build-Depends entries, so I'll test with pbuilder, bring out a 0.9 that fixes the changelog entry and the other bugs I've found and let you know.

BTW the .deb does install into /usr/share as it should - it's only the "make install" install that goes into /usr/local/share.

Should I delete all other entries from the changelog except the one that says "0.9 - closes Closes: #555750"?

Thanks again!

Not a problem - it looks like something I should be using for my own hg repos!

As for the changelog that is really matter of personal preference - Its only the "latest" one that will be examined on the Debian-side, and so that one should have the "Closes" entry in it - so you can remove all past ones, or keep them present as you see fit.

Drop me a mail when you're ready, or ever have a new release, and I'll verify pbuider cleanness and upload for you.

All done - thanks again!

Is this analagous to other tools?

Is this analogous to using gitorious with git, or the command="svnserve -t --tunnel-user alice" hack in .ssh/authorized_keys with subversion?

I'm told that mercurial-server is very similar to a tool called "gitosis", but I don't really know anything about it or either of the tools you mention.
