Tatton was held by Martin Bell who took it from the Hamiltons. Neither Labour nor the Lib Dems stood against him, so the Tories got 100% of the major party vote in 97 though Bell got 60.2% of the votes cast. He stood down the next year, so the seat returned to Tory control with a 20% majority.
