Shibboleth looks interesting from a brief glance. Like Kerberos, though, it's mostly useful for authentication within a single large institution, which isn't so interesting for applications like Monotone, Jabber and so forth. Again, it knows roughly where it lives on Zooko's triangle.
I've looked a little at WS-* and the whole thing looks like a nightmare. Which style of XML canonicalization shall we use? They are incredibly complex and it looks like it gives you all the rope you need to shoot yourself in the foot and more. To me they are great examples of everything that's wrong with vendor-driven standards.
