Fame at last (again) - this time in the Big Issue! [livejournal.com profile] trishpiglet, [livejournal.com profile] babysimon, [livejournal.com profile] gemoon, [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady and I are in the Big Issue this week talking about poly. There's a big picture of all of us accompanying the article, and me and [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady's picture appears on the contents page, with the caption "Page 14: Boys who love girls who love other boys and girls...".

The article is pretty positive, if somewhat standard fare, and us five in particular come across very positively. Sadly it's not fantastic for accuracy - the only thing I'm quoted as saying is a misquote (what I was actually trying to say was that I generally like it when a partner sleeps with someone new) and they think [livejournal.com profile] lilithmagna is a woman! I seem to remember that we were all careful to refer to "Nat" and use a male pronoun throughout, but never mind...

In other news I had a lovely time in Bradford, then spent all day today fiddling with servers in someone else's office in Harrow, miles from civilization. Tomorrow is Day of the Dead day...

We will have to make you a t-shirt that says I went to Bradford and survived... with the back print reading I even survived Rios too!

Was good to see you, even if:
a) you are a wuss and can't dance to Ministry
b) you missed seeing the White Zombie/Locomotion extravaganza

:-)

Yeees, the good ole assume 'Nat' is a shortening of Natalie and therefore a female name syndrome. Having lived with someone who uses Nat as a gender neutral name I have found avoiding pronouns entirely results in assumed 'she' and sometimes I have used the male pronoun and I still get people thinking 'Nat' is a 'she'.

I won't even begin to start the rant of 'I am not called Nat' damnit, as it is a common shortening of both my current legal and soon to be legal first name. Thus getting me mixed with the aforementioned Nat.

Gotta love gendered name perception.

HAH!

No one can figure out the gender of my name, which is great! (And it's not Annie Oakley, that's a joke.)

Get the big picture

So how do I get a copy of this magazine?

And how is Day of the Dead tomorrow when it's supposed to be November 2nd?

Shame it's only London - any chance of the text being disseminated?

:)

The thing is, we do call Nat 'Lili', and we do refer to him with a female pronoun most of the time. So the fact that we made an effort not to, and still confused the journalist, is quite ammusing really!

You are misquoted twice actually - they yoink that quote and use it as a shout line on the picture :(

I'll post the pictures later, and if I have time I might type the article out too...

Oh, Paul is far too modest to mention that :). Famous for it :)

You all look pretty edible actually.

oh how I wish I still lived in London. I just can't imagine a poly article appearing in the scottish edition without some conservative backlash :-(

You were in Bradford? Not that far from Manchester...

Same here, minus the 'still.'

OTOH, perhaps the backlash wouldn't be so bad -- at least more people would know what poly is, and maybe some open-minded people would even become interested in learning more.

I'm getting very sick of feeling like I'm nearly alone in this country, having met only a small handful of other poly folks. :/
