Not murder, sadly, but manslaughter.

How that makes any sense, I don't know - if he's "connected" to the killing by having paid people to do it, surely that's murder? The jury seems to think there's "reasonable doubt" that he actually wanted him killed, rather than just roughed up a bit. But what they did was not a "roughing up" gone too far - it was clearly planned as a hit attempt.

Call in Roger Cook! And the United Nations!

U: Got there before [livejournal.com profile] zotz, yay!
U: In other news, Jeffery Archer is still in prison.

My laptop just crashed, with a stack trace on the console. It was running a stable-series 2.4 kernel.

I think the crash screen has changed somewhat since I saw it last, but I can't remember, it was about eight years ago now.

Oh, and I've also met several nice South Africans.

Urgent request if you live in Edinburgh, and you're a professional person who has known me for two years or more:

I need some passport photos signed tomorrow morning. If I turn up at your workplace, can you sign them for me? Apparently I'm supposed to be going to Geneva on either Friday or Monday, but with no passport it could be tricky. I have an appointment with Glasgow passport office for 1430, but they need me to bring the photos with them.

I still haven't told the story of how I got home on Sunday after discovering that morning that I'd lost my passport the night before, I know.

antipope.org is down again, not UK2Net's fault for once it seems, so I'm off email for a while. And a screw has got itself wedged in the PCMCIA slots of my laptop, so I can't pick up work email or... well, do any of the things I need to do to go to Geneva.

On the TODO list tomorrow goes 'phoning my boss and the guy organising the meeting to say "if you need to talk to me, use the 'phone!"

Update 0045: antipope.org seems to be back up. And so to bed.
