Started getting a bit concerned about the lack of money in my account, phoned work.

It turns out that they ran out of money and couldn't pay everyone, but that at the last minute a big investor has signed up to funding the company for three months and we should receive half our salary in the middle of the week and half at the end. I didn't hear about it because it was sent on a company-wide mailing list that's very difficult for me to read, and in German to boot.

I'm very worried; I get those "it's all going horribly wrong" vibes. I must update my CV to be on the safe side.

Hmmmm...

...well, I think we'd all admit it's a dodgy time. I think anyone who works for a dot-xyz is currently scared. Thing is, loads of people were laid off at Quidnunc, and they all had new jobs a week after starting to look. And you're brighter than all of them.

Plus the dot-com shakedown has to end soon. I don't know if you work for a consultancy, but one of the things that's causing us grief at the moment is the likes of Razorfish offering insane discounts in a desperate attempt to drum up work. Once that lot go under, things should (*should*) chill out.

There we are. I've nearly convinced myself.

Might as well sort out the CV anyway...

You're not the only one...

My paycheck will apparently be 'indefinitely delayed' and do I have an address where they could send it after I leave Thailand? Bearing in mind that this is my first paycheck, from the last two weeks of June and I don't leave Thailand until the beginning of September.

Of course, I don't have to worry about rent and such until August, but still...

Well, it is hard for me to be objective about your talents, but all the geeks I know seem to think your skills, CV etc are pretty impressive. So maybe you wont get a new job as amenable as the present job, if indeed you do lose this job, but you are unlikely to be out of work for any length of time, surely?

And of course, I have an alternative career plan for you, as you know :).
