I think it because I have seen in the past 'narrow hips' used as a derogatory term about wome women, along the lines of narrow hips => not built for childbearing => raving dyke. (hmmmn. wonder if Willow was written to suit ;-)
(and zotz ... Alyson is WAY more important than those men you mentioned, although Lara's is noted)
