As for Searle - from what you said it seems like he's keeping up his reputation for pompous misrepresentation! I first came across it in his ridiculous misreading (and one has to ask whether he read at all!) of Derrida in a debate on speech-act theory. Prompted Derrida to write something on the 'ethics of discussion' which, whether you love or hate Derrida himself, was spot on in that context.
"The fuck" ... lol =) I hope you shouted "you fuck!" at him really loudly across the auditorium ;)
