What shall I have for tea?

I need to go shopping shortly, and I am quite sick of ready meals. Cooking just for myself - so doesn't have to be vegetarian - what shall I make for myself for tea?

What sort of food do you like/tend to cook?

Dhal! A billion Subcontinentals can't be wrong.

Simplest version: boil red lentils in enough water to cover (top up to stop sticking) for 20-30 min, then mix in Patak's curry paste to taste.

Elaborate by doing onion/garlic/Ginger fried separately, with spices mixed up yourself. Poppadums go nicely too (very easy to cook ready made ones), pickles, etc.

Here's another vote for spag boll, it doesn't matter if you end up with ooodles of it cuz it'll last two days in the fridge and then it freezes really well for future baked potatoes etc. Without wanting to state the obvious I would advise against using cheap mince. xx

Black pepper with scrambled eggs, obviously. You are the bestest scrambler I know.

Whenever my veggie is out and I'm just cooking for myself I have steak. I usually do a mirabeau sauce - fry the steak in butter, then put it in an oven at about 90 degrees to keep warm. Mash about half a tin of anchovies and chop a few olives, add them to the butter with about 100ml red wine, and turn the heat right up until reduced to about half its volume. Pour the sauce over the steak, serve with rice and some kind of green vegetable lightly steamed (I usually go for spinach or mange tout).

Sausages. Cooked a bit longer than the packet says at one gas mark below. Cut to ensure nonpinkness, but mmmmmmmmmm.

They do if you vary the instructions. Also they taste good. Results, even if you're not sure about the effort put into them.
