Phone really lost

Fuck, my phone isn't in the club's lost property.

Whoever had it called Jess at 5am. They didn't answer when I called back. Then it got blocked. What is going on?

Rubbish :(

Hope you find it somehow - having to update all your numbers and start from scratch is not fun :(

At a guess:

Someone has it who doesn't know you but is trying to be helpful. They saw that Jess was the most recent called person and guessed that's someone you know well. They didn't answer when you rang back as they're not carrying it round with them.

Any way you can get the block taken off?

This is a random guess, and may be heavily coloured by my faith in humanity.

I rang back immediately after they called me, and it rang out.

I think it's probably in benign but not maximally efficient hands.

I spent 1hr 40 mins on hold to Orange on Saturday trying to get the block removed so I could call them or they could call me, but I didn't get through. I finally got through on Sunday and got the block set so I can call them but not vice versa, but the phone hasn't been switched on since then. Whoever it is hasn't tried any other way of reaching me, eg phoning a number in my phone with another phone, or contacting the club, the venue, or the police.

If it wasn't for that 5am call I'd just give up on it as stolen, but now I don't know what to think.

They probably went to sleep after ringing - and the charge has now run out.
Sounds a bit hopeless..

One thing I keep meaning to say is that when my brother lost his phone, someone called my mum from it to wind her up by saying he was in hospital. Turned out whoever took it was drunk and thought that would be funny. It's not the only example of that I've heard of. So the call may not necessarily have been benign.

Also, knowing your phone, it may have been accidental.

Don't want to tell you to lose hope, but I think at this point I'd start sorting out a new phone. If the person ever really wants to get it back to you, they can contact the club organisers.

sorry love :( xxx

My hopes are also low

Yeah, new phone is right. Maybe you can help me figure out what phone I should get while you're at it? I'm crap with technology.

When I dropped my phone on the tube (Note: I actually heard it, just didn't realise what it was. As you may guess, all the people sitting near me alerted me to its fall... *sigh*), a lot of people were getting calls for about the next day. They call and hang up when you answer - I think someone suggested they're looking for numbers to sell to telemarketers.

I couldn't get my phone blocked (it wasn't in my name and was PAYG with about £10 credit on it), but they'd block it if I paid £10 to get a replacement SIM first... Oh, and T-Mobile's hold music is horrid.

Sorry, but.......

...I think you had better get a new phone. My perhaps over cynical mind sees nothing particularly positive about the call - drunk thieving wankers are not particularly rational about the things they find amusing :(

~nodding~
Combine that with the "what does this button do" approach to learning how new technology works and, although not pointedly malicious, whoever has the phone doesn't seem intent on returning it.

I concur with the others who say consider it lost/stolen... My friend's mum lost her phone and the finder phoned several people until they found someone who could say "Yes I know whose phone this is" and arranged for owner contact to be made and phone collected. Oh and I wouldn't phone at 5am, I'd probably wait till more daylight, or send an SMS instead.

I would surmise that it has been stolen.

On one occasion when I had a phone stolen, the thieves decided that making sleazy and explicit phone calls in the middle of the night to recently-called female names was a good idea.

When did you lose your phone? I did text you back, but I'm guessing you didn't get it...

Friday night, so no, I didn't get your text - sorry! I've been keeping an eye out for you on IM but haven't seen you...
