Battle Royale

Battle Royale - bloody hell! I quite like violent movies, and that is *by far* the most violent film I have ever seen. Not the goriest, not the one with the most deaths, but the one that leaves you with the most lasting images of the most heartstopping violence.

Highly recommended if you like really, really, really violent movies.

Am now at home with grumbly stomach. That's OK, though, I can do some tidying around the house.

I loved Battle Royale. We had a Battle Royale party a few years ago, and I gave each of the guests survival kits, with water, food, and a variety of weapons (ranging from knives and scissors to coathangers and bottle openers).

It is FANTASTIC! But as ive just said to [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady you should read the novel, its a lot better with a lot more of the characters full stories, its great :-D

and here I get to second your recommendation on the novel.

Hell, I'm going to have to go home and find my copy now... I want to read it again. I havn't read the manga... i figure I'll wait till its all out and finished, then i'll just read the lot in one go.

Its fantastic. There are a lot of side/background stories with the characters, but the drawings are amazing! The japanese seem to have an obsession with eyeballs, its great! Ive been waiting for far too long for number 14, im getting vey impatient. I cant wait to read them all in one go :-D

I will definitely make a note to check it out as soon as it finishes its initial run. Its delays like that that generally make me wait for a series to be released in its entirity. Witness one 4pt miniseries that i think has been going well over 2 years by now. every time a new issue appears i have to read the previous ones to remember what the hell was going on...

I reccomend the manga over both the movie and the book.

Yeah I've seen Battle Royale a few times now (and made the mistake of buying a copy of BR#2 - which just wasn't good) and only just got round to reading the novel.

The book is far more involved in terms of characters, which makes it a nice read. The violence isn't so different, but I liked hearing more about Mitsuko and ... the transfer student whos name I cannot remember .. especially.

Battle Royale is fab! If you thought that was bad you should try getting your hands on Ichi The Killer...

...got the animated version of that at Borders (OK, at least the branch I shelve DVDs in...)

I rather like both Battle Royale movies, but I'm not sure if they are more violent than the opening scenes of 'Gangs of New York' & most of 'Kill Bill'...

Agreed. There's something about the inevitability and relentlessness of the killing, rather than the amount and pace, and the incongruity of the kids as killers that makes it quite breathtaking.
