I like this New Year meme.

Please feel free to take me off your friends list if I'm only there out of a sense of obligation. I won't think you don't like me - it could be that you like me in person but my journal is all geek stuff, or that your friends list is out of control, or that you're using LJ for something different, or any number of things. You're free to do that at any time, of course, but the idea of a meme saying "start your year with a manageable number of journals to read" is appealing...

I'm on few enough of your filters that you barely impact my "holy shit how am I ever going to slog through all this" friends list experience.

It's kinda weird. A lot of people on my list I ended up feeling closer to after starting to read them. Or I got to know them better. Or I feel somewhat less out of touch. There are a couple people, you included, where being on LJ with you makes me feel more remote, less in touch, and less like I know you. It's probably the difference between someone who's a light acquaintence but whose circle and experience overlaps mine, and someone with whom I've shared a lot but our current experiences are so totally separate.

It's weird, and I hope this isn't an overshare. In any case, I miss you, and unlike a lot of my friends being with LJ on you doesn't substitute for voice or in person contact.

I think not! Heavens. That's like a sentence to a life of chocolate sundaes with nary a cherry on top - and I love digging in the ice cream looking for that cherry. Your blog actually gives me things to talk about at parties (the leatherboys at last Friday's party said they had a pony driving ring at some event a few summers ago, but I wasn't invited to that, alas), which is generally not true for most blog writing. And I like the geek content as well as the big tramp content, so don't stop with that.

Of course, I keep wishing you'd add me but there's little point as my blog would only clog up your friends list ... it's not like the invitations I post to come do things with me would be at all useful. I do think however that you'd like my story about the upcoming Seattle erotic art show, but I haven't posted it yet (the photo I'm hoping to use to illustrate the story is here - the best of the images from here).

You did? Yay! (Good lord, does that mean I haven't been using my computer 10 hours a day? This may be the case, but it's probably a good thing.)

Here's where the story will show up in a day or so, my private blog. I post my writing stuff there, partially because my stories are too long for me to post on LJ, but also for other reasons having to do with privacy. I'll drop the story there in the next day or so, keep your eyes peeled. Next week it will show up properly online, in the paper that it's being printed in rather than the draft version on my blog. The paper comes out on alternating Wednesdays, but they always have a lag time in getting the site updated. (I'd help fix that but I figure they already get enough free work out of me.)
