Sometimes, I just love being rude

I'm sorry, it's a guilty pleasure I know, but I just sent Fritz Klein a snotty email and it fills me with pleasure. He asked "Can you please send me: dates, urls and e-mail contacts" about BiCon 2003 since apparently he "cannot find information on the web" about it.

I replied:

I'm curious to know what measures you tried to find BiCon 2003 before mailing me. I tried every approach I could think of, and every one worked first time. http://www.google.com/ in particular was entirely successful.

Running BiCon is as you probably know a great deal of work. It would be even more work if we were obliged to find information for our attenders that they could *very* easily find for themselves. Fortunately only a very few people are rude enough to expect this of us.

(For those who don't know: Klein is a painfully self-important American academic who has written some about bisexuality. I'll save the detailed description for another time...)

Don't be too rude, he might refuse to come again. And then we'd have to count to 6 *all by ourselves* ;)

Ah, but his scale goes to seven!

(The original US publishers thought Americans were now too stupid to have a 0..6 scale.)

Well, it's not usually too hard to find someone to lend a finger at BiCon.

*thwap* dirty cat!

he was very rude to us poor sods who were un the front desk when he arrived at BiCon 2002 too. Thoroughly unpleasant bloke, and clearly lacking in clue.

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2002-12-17 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Fucker! I'd be curious to hear about this in more detail...

Good for you!

Having met him myself, I can only giggle.

Oo naughty!

*giggle*

Haha! Excellent! :P
Nice meeting you again at Nightmare as well. Glad your camera turned up!

In situations like that, I generally reply with a bare URL such as <URL:http://www.google.com/search?q=bicon>.

Makes the point quite nicely, yet you can't be accused of being unhelpful.

Dental implants? That's not what I was looking for...

[identity profile] ex-suum-cuiq980.livejournal.com 2002-12-17 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand your pleasure: sending that sort of email to people who are really asking for it always makes me happy too!

be kind, he is American, and studies have show that americans can't scroll web browser windows, and that's why you have to click after every three lines of text...

my search revealed:
Bicon dental implant replaces missing teeth and dentures.
BICON - the Baltic Insurance Consultant Network
Bicon Dental Implants - Case Studies
주)한국 바이콘 - Bicon Korea Corp.

What search did you do? On Google, I get BiCon 2002 as the second hit, which of course links to BiCon 2003 on the front page; bicon.org.uk is hit 5, ditto; BiCon 2003 is hit 9.

A search on BiCon 2003 is even more successful...

Nah, be especially mean, because Americans like him make life difficult for American travellers (as opposed to tourists) and even more so for American expatriates.

Ah, but he does have a fab handlebar moustache - or am I thinking of someone else?

*grin*

At bicon 2000, peter tatchell arrived, collected his room keys, walked over to the sink at reception and did the washing up for us cos we were busy and it needed doing.

Klein demanded having one of the core team take him on a site tour the moment he arrived.

Remind me to shake you warmly by the hand next time I see you ;o)

Peter Tatchell is a star in lots of ways, isn't he?

Wonderful! Yes, an important difference between the two.

You know this is public?

I'm only barely resisting the temptation to draw his attention to it myself.
