Importing old posts?

What's the advantage of importing all my old LJ posts into DJ over just leaving a forwarding address? Won't I lose all the comments?

You can import comments too.
I guess the advantages are that you can then delete your LJ, if you wanted to, and that people who friend you just on DW can see your flocked posts.

The comments come with, and are associated with the original user, via OpenID:

As others have said, the DW importer gives you the option to import comments alongside the entries. (And you can run it again later to update crossposted entries with later LJ comments.)

To my mind this is - at minimum - an excellent live backup of my LJ, comments and all.

The comments come too, but with the relevant LJ OpenID and without their icons. See http://reddragdiva.dreamwidth.org/38802.html for an example.
