how far do you think it is from waverly station to the edinburgh castle? i mean, if i am taking the train in and arriving at the station, would it be feasible to walk to the castle or is a taxi more reasonable?

i appreciate your help.

It's about a five minute walk to the entrance to the Castle from the Market St exit to the station (marked by the star)

Get onto the bridge inside the station that runs over the exit to the ticket offices, and go towards the Market St exit (not towards Princes St). Turn right when you leave the station, past the mini-roundabout and up towards the Scottish Parliament building. If you can't figure out the little shortcut, just go around Bank St and right at the lights. You should be able to see the castle when you get to the corner with Deacon Brodie's pub.
