Self-deception

Is self-deception always bad? Are there any beliefs so dear to you that, in a world where they weren't true, you would prefer to go on believing them?

Not sure what you're referring to here - as you say, people sometimes disagree, but I'm not sure what the relationship with self-deception you're highlighting here is, can you say a little more?
