Does my new chart make sense?

Imagine for a moment that it's 2:30 AM London time on November 5th and like me, you've stayed up late to watch the US elections. Six states have been called so far: Vermont and Virginia for Obama, and Indiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Kentucky for McCain. You go to my election page and see this diagram:

Does it make sense to you? How could I improve it?

thanks!

Update: wow, a flood of very helpful comments, thanks so much, keep them coming!

Or even very pale pink for the states called R, very pale blue for the states called D, and white for the polling?

I was thinking that.

Or: pink for states called R, light blue for states called D, pale pink for states polling R, v pale blue for states polling D?

That would be clearer in terms of which states are called, but blue and red type is harder for me to read against a white background than against a black background. Pale grey would be fine. This is probably linked to the fact that my eyes are unusually sensitive to glare, according to my optometrist.
