My nose

I'm sick of having a crap nose! I've spoken to my GP and said it's about time I had surgery to have my nasal polyps removed - she's referred me to St George's ENT. I can't wait! I won't have a permanent cold any more - I'll sleep better, feel better, I'll be able to taste food, think straight, not have to have tissues with me everywhere and won't be blowing my nose all the time. I don't know why I waited so long - about a fortnight ago it got that bit worse and I felt crap for a bit, and then when it didn't get better again a week later I thought "sod this, I want the op".

Also, they do a CT scan before the op. I want the dataset! My own skull - how cool is that?

Also, I twisted my ankle on the way home on Tuesday, shortly after bumping into [livejournal.com profile] indigo_violet outside Liverpool St Station. Owww! The station couldn't give me painkillers - I limped home where [livejournal.com profile] spikeylady met me at the station and was lovely to me for about 24 hours straight.

The above is the user icon Jess has made me for nose-related posts. Once I get around to renewing my paid account I'll start using it...

Envy! I want to have that too. Here's hoping the op is swift and painless, all the best!

My dad had this operation ages & ages ago. His polyps messed with his sense of smell. He's still a little inclined to be sniffly, but he said it was definitely worth it.

Not sure you'll get rid of the tissues altogether, though - I always need tissues with me in winter & my nose is fine :)

Are you going to have that removed as well?

I may have to have something done about a deviated septum at some point, but it's not really a big issue at the moment.

I've got the films of one of the two head CT scans I had for my sinus issues, didn't manage to get the raw digital data, alas, so I keep meaning to find a way to scan some of the images. Too big for most negative scanners, the best suggestion so far is a light box and a digital camera on a tripod.

[identity profile] green-badger.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I had an MRI on my head and didn't think to ask for the pretty pictures (but I think the NHS usually refuse to give them) - the doctor said in passing that I have 'funny sinuses' but didn't specify in what way... :/

Good luck with the op!

[identity profile] barking-watcher.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll see you CT scan and raise you a full body MRI scan showing fats deposits

[identity profile] nik-strychnine.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm- CT scan dataset, extract skull shape, output to rapid prototype machine, pass to forensic artist to reconstruct face (without meeting!), compare result of reconstruction to original...

Dude! It's been for ever - so glad you're going for this now.

Oh dear, sorry about the ankle. No painkillers at the station, eh? Try gin. xx

Good luck with ENT, sounds like the surgery will improve your quality of life a fair bit. Getting CT data is definitely a good aim! I want my CTs and MRIs of my head and the Xrays of my hands - the left one looks like wolverine claws.

That sounds like good nose.

[identity profile] drdoug.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
... and I hope the op goes as well as po(lyp)ssible.

[identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I won't know when it happens 'till I'm scent the appointment card, and it'll be a while before anyone nose how the surgery went...

[identity profile] drdoug.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Presumably it's just a day surgery thing so you won't be an inpatient, but in the unlikely event that you are, I hope you get aroma with a view.

[identity profile] drdoug.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry - 'snot as if I had any excuse for that. These nasal puns just run and run. There's so many to pick. If we run short, I know someone who can de-sinus some more.

gnnnaaa!

scent the appointment card

Is that an intention typo?

[identity profile] angeoverhere.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Fingers crossed it goes well.

I had this done when I was 18 and found it quite traumatic for a not-all-that-dramatic improvement. However they didn't know that's what the problem was till they got in there, and it was a long time ago - I'd imagine things have come on a bit since then.

So is this the one where they burn it out and everything smells like barbecued pork for six months?

[identity profile] gothbabe.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with it - glad to hear it'll help you feel better : )

[identity profile] aster13.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely very cool.

owee for the ankle. Remember RICE!

My dog's got no nose...(going round in my head whilst reading your post)

[identity profile] seph-hazard.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! This is likely to be a Very Good Thing. It'll be lovely for you to be able to live without a nasty cold and painful sinuses in the morning. I'm v glad you're going for it :-)

Hope your ankle's alright - how bad's the twist? Is it swollen? Have you been resting it and keeping it elevated? Could it be sprained, or could you have pulled the tendons? (Don't mind me, I'm just the world expert on twisted ankles - I have told you about mine, haven't I, and the trouble it's caused? [g])

[identity profile] lovelybug.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I examined it after carrying him (well, sort of) back from the station, and there wasn't much visable swelling, so I think just a twist/strain. It seems lots better now :)

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a perforated septum - and not for the reason goths normally do, either.

[identity profile] some-fox.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
That's great news. Well done you for getting on it (I need to make both doctor and dentist appointments and am procrastinating both)

cool. Hope it happens soon and goes well

no blow (the nose) job here

Actually, I keep thinking about the princess in Spaceballs (http://imdb.com/title/tt0094012/) being used to get the combination of the atmosphere shield gate, threats to bring back her original nose...
