Use the try harder, Luke

Luke: All right, I'll give it a try.
Yoda: No! Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Luke raises his hand, and slowly, the X-wing begins to rise out of the water - Yoda's eyes widen - but then the ship sinks again.

Mark Hamill: "Um, George..."
George Lucas: "What is it now?"
Mark: "So... according to the script, next I say, 'I can't. It's too big'."
George: "That's right."
Mark: "Shouldn't Luke maybe give it another shot?"

Mark: "The audience isn't going to buy it."
George: "Trust me, they will.

Much as I hate to admit it, George was right - nobody has walked out of Empire Strikes Back in any screenings I've seen, or even heard of. And indeed they flocked to see Return Of The Jedi, which would be odd if they'd thought the previous one was unconvincing pants.

It's like The Da Vinci Code or Harry Potter - huge narrative pull, very popular and compelling. Just don't look closely at how it's made or the magic breaks.

(My favourite Star Wars theory is that the Empire are actually the good guys.)

Yes, but I still maintain he is a genius! He's just always struck me as the happiest and most content of the 3. (though don't get me wrong I LOVE Carrie Fisher)
