The US mid-terms in pictures

Promo shot from an upcoming Tim Burton movie about a far-right Christian politician with a dark secret. Actually, it's not - astonishingly, that's a real photo, unmanipulated, of Rick Santorum's concession speech. It's just too perfect.

From This Modern World

I've been meaning to post these for ages, but only got the energy today...

When's the movie out?

Santorum's far from being my favourite US politico, but that photo shows him in a darker light than even I'd have thought. One daughter's in tears, the two other kids and his wife are stony-faced ... and he's still smiling. The worm.

I actually feel pretty sorry for the daughter on reflection: she's clearly very upset, and, Ghod save her, her father is Rick bloody Santorum. Jebus. Poor mite.

Yes, my reaction to this photo isn't really schadenfreude. It's just to marvel at... well, "perfection" isn't a strong enough term for the extent to which they fulfill the stereotype. Really, Burton couldn't have done any better.

I've just read the Wikipedia article... pass me the Brillo pad, I need to scrub my brain.

Santorum and his wife, Karen, have six children... In 1996, their son Gabriel Michael was born prematurely and lived for only two hours... Karen Santorum wrote... that the couple brought the deceased infant home from the hospital and introduced the dead child to their living children as "your brother Gabriel" and slept with the body overnight before returning him to the hospital... Karen is also the author of a book on etiquette for children.

What is the correct etiquette for being introduced to the mortal remains of your deceased infant sibling in the arms of your grieving parents, perchance?

I'd have thought 'run screaming' would fit most scenarios...
